Day Sixteen
DAY SIXTEEN
MORNING VERSE:
“We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.” (Romans 6:4)
EVENING VERSE:
“For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his.” (Romans 6:5)
MEDITATION
The solution for sinfulness is the grave. The waters of baptism represent and illustrate the fact that all of our sinfulness is buried once and for all. If the cross removes each of our sins, the grave removes our sinfulness. Just as Israel crossed safely through the Red Sea on dry land and Pharaoh and his army were buried, so too our taskmaster of sin was buried through the Lord’s death. When you attempt to find freedom apart from identifying with the cross, the grave and his resurrection, you are in essence operating in unbelief. Take time to remember your water baptism. When you entered into the waters, you were declaring by faith that all of your sinfulness would be buried that day. As you came up out of the waters, you were joined in spirit to the Lord and his resurrection. You now have the power of the Spirit to live a new life! No longer controlled by sin, selfishness and death, but by the Spirit of God!
