How to Disciple Pt.2

Before we can see a grassroots discipleship movement, we must embrace and understand the heart behind a minister of the gospel. For too long we have focused on trying to motivate and inspire people to righteous living, instead of helping them understand and experience the power of the gospel. The power of the gospel is that our hearts are made brand new. As we again examine the life and ministry of the Apostle Paul, we will extract some key characteristics of a faithful minister of Christ. Though we may feel as though these traits are missing in our own lives, all we have to do is have a willingness to walk in them and God will go to work! Once our hearts are aligned with the gospel, we will find that ministry is a great joy and not a burden!

We do not need to possess these qualities in fullness before we begin, but the desire to grow in love, compassion and understanding must be present if we want to lead others into a place of freedom. To illustrate this, we look at the Apostle Paul and his motive in ministry.

The Faith of the Gospel

Peter addresses two major problems facing the Body of Christ. The first problem is that Christians are looking less and less like Christ. This creates confusion not only in the Church but for the world. If they cannot find Christ in Christians, where can they find him? In addition, the Church has tried to unify around expressions of the faith, instead of the faith of the gospel. What is the solution? Return to a gospel-focused on Jesus Christ instead of man.

Describing the Faith Crisis

A faith crisis in the Church has produced a lack of passion, sin issues running rampant and people leaving church. Instead of trying to address these symptoms as individual problems that must be solved, we must treat these symptoms at the root. Cultivating the faith of the gospel in our hearts and the hearts of others is the answer to this faith crisis.
