The Promises of Jesus (His Return)
Our salvation is past, present and future. This triune salvation is connected to the triune promise of the Father concerning the triune works of Jesus providing us with a triune grace! Here we will examine the final promise, the consummation of his saving work that is an event yet to come. But how do we engage with a future salvation? Hope!
24 For Christ has entered, not into holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true things, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God on our behalf. 25 Nor was it to offer himself repeatedly, as the high priest enters the holy places every year with blood not his own, 26 for then he would have had to suffer repeatedly since the foundation of the world. But as it is, he has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.27 And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment, 28 so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.
Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is. 3 And everyone who thus hopes in him purifies himself as he is pure.
11 For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, 12 training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age, 13 waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, 14 who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works.
Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.
There is a future saving grace connected to the Return of Jesus which is called ‘our blessed hope’. The final promise of the Gospel is that Jesus is returning for His Bride. We are instructed to put our hope in this future event and that as we do, his purity will become our own.
We must cultivate a HOPE in his return. It is meant to anchor us through trials and persecutions and bring purity to us.
