A NEW NATURE
He crucified our sinful nature on the cross and became our sin so that we could become His righteousness. The justifying power of God to make our spirit righteous completely changes our very nature. If God’s salvation could not meet the deepest need of humanity and if the blood of Jesus was unable to cleanse us from all sin, then His salvation is not as grand as He made it out to be. It minimizes the power of the gospel message to believe you still have a sinful nature. It undermines what He did for us and it leaves us powerless against sin and the desires of the flesh. The gospel is God’s power to save us from all sin, and it is only when we start to believe this profound truth that we will experience the freedom it promises.
When we are justified, we receive the righteousness of God as a gift. Our sinful nature is crucified with Christ, and we receive our new nature by the Holy Spirit, as a deposit of the glory that is to come. Once we realize and believe this magnificent truth, we will no longer allow ourselves to identify with the many of the effects of the fall of man. In good faith we will not use excuses like “Well, I’m only human” to justify sinful behavior. True transformation occurs when we believe and apply the truth of our new nature, allowing our minds to continually be renewed in the fact that the blood of Jesus has not just put us in a positional place of righteousness before God, but He has actually transformed our very nature. It becomes futile to try and walk out the Christian faith. In the revelation of the power of the gospel, we understand who we have become, and can simply be who God has made us to be.
It ultimately comes down to a question of what we believe. The gospel is powerful because it leads us to believe how God sees us. When someone believes the gospel, the fact that they are righteous, it becomes awkward and unnatural to commit a sinful act. Sin feels like an alien behavior, an intrusion to their righteous reign in life.
Take day 21 to yourself.
